In April 2013 the Sand Marathon was held. This one is also known as Marathon Sables and has a distance of about 240 kilometers. This marathon is held from the 5th to the 15th of April and was located near Ouarzazate, in the South of Morocco. There were 1017 participants both men and women. There were all kind of ages between 18 and 80 years old and came from all over the world. During this marathon the participants had to follow some rules. A couple of rules are that competitors only could carry basic supples like clothes, food, drinks, sleeping gear etcetera. Drinking water was distributed at every 10 kilometers.
The winner of the women's race was Laurence Klein from France, and of the men's race Mohamad Ahansal from Morocco. The two winners received their award at the Prize Ceremony afterwards. The held marathon went very peaceful and enjoyable and hope all participants gather again next year!
